Foster a Love for Nature & Travel Blog

Playing In Nature is a passion project blog of mine. That is focused on inspiring other families to disconnect from their daily lives and foster a love for nature. My blog shares a variety of blog posts and guides to help your family get outdoors and plan your trips safely as well as some travel destinations in and around the UK.

I hope that through my tips and resources we all can inspire other families to foster a love for nature in themselves and their children too. Let’s start a generation trend of loving, caring for and respecting Mother Nature.

Namaste, I'm Charmaine Howard

I'm the storyteller behind Playing In Nature. I am a wife, business owner, fur baby mother and an absolute fanatic about Nature and treating her respectfully. Through my blog, I hope to help families of all ages foster a deep love and respect for Mother Nature, and inspire families to spend more time outdoors or just connect to it as best as they can.

I absolutely love permaculture and holistic land management and what they stand for and do when implemented correctly and fully. My goal is to share my love of nature with you, give you tips, and guides and increase your nature knowledge.

I am currently based in the UK, living in a caravan with my husband and fur baby. We are traversing the whole of the UK, with Scotland, Ireland and hopefully the Isle of man as well. Such Fun!

Dog running on a Cornish beach at golden hour with dramatic cliffs and turquoise water in the background

Top 5 Dog-Friendly Beaches in Cornwall for Coastal Walks

March 24, 2026

There's a particular kind of magic that happens the moment your dog's paws touch a Cornish beach for the first time. The salt-kissed air hits their nose, their tail starts going ten to the dozen, and suddenly — just like that — every mile of the journey melts away. Cornwall's coastline stretches for over 422 miles, weaving through dramatic cliffs, hidden sea caves, and wide golden bays that feel almost too beautiful to be real. And the very best news? Plenty of those stunning shores roll out the welcome mat for four-legged explorers all year round.

Whether you're planning a dog-friendly holiday in Cornwall for the first time or returning to this magical corner of England, here are five beaches that will make both you and your beloved companion fall completely, irreversibly in love.

1. Sennen Cove — Wild, Windswept and Utterly Spectacular

Sit at the very tip of the Cornish peninsula, just minutes from Land's End, and you'll find Sennen Cove: arguably one of the most breathtaking dog-friendly beaches in Cornwall. This sweeping, pale-gold bay faces the full, unbroken force of the Atlantic Ocean, making it dramatic and exhilarating in equal measure. Dogs are welcome here year-round, and the wide, firm sands at low tide provide the perfect canvas for a proper off-lead gallop.

The tiny harbour village behind the beach is relaxed and welcoming, with a smattering of cafés that are happy to accommodate well-behaved dogs outside. Watch the surfers cutting through the waves while your dog sprints joyfully at the water's edge. Early mornings here are simply unforgettable — mist lifting off the ocean, the beach almost entirely yours, and the kind of silence that resets something deep inside you.

2. Gwithian Towans — Miles of Golden Freedom

If it's space you're after — true, liberating, wide-open space — Gwithian Towans will take your breath away. This vast, unspoiled stretch of sand near Hayle is backed by rolling dunes and the gentle curve of the Hayle Estuary, and dogs are welcome year-round across much of the beach. Cornwall coastal walks don't get much better than this: dunes to explore, surf to splash through, and miles of shoreline where your dog can truly run free.

The beach is rarely overcrowded, even in the height of summer, offering a welcome sense of escape. Bring a flask of something hot, find a sheltered hollow in the dunes, and watch your dog race in joyful loops across the sand. This is Cornwall at its most elemental — unhurried, natural, and deeply restorative.

3. Polzeath — A North Cornwall Classic

Polzeath is one of North Cornwall's most beloved Cornwall beaches — a crescent of golden sand cupped by green headlands and washed by some of the best surf on the peninsula. Dogs are welcome during the quieter months and in early mornings throughout the summer season, making it the perfect destination for a sunrise walk before the world wakes up. The village has a genuine, laid-back surf culture that gives it a relaxed, inclusive energy, and the South West Coast Path runs directly above for elevated clifftop walking with sweeping views across the bay.

4. Porthtowan — Rugged, Raw and Magnificent

For those who love their Cornwall wild and atmospheric, Porthtowan is absolutely unmissable. This rugged north-coast beach is backed by high dramatic cliffs and enormous skies, and dogs are welcome year-round. The waves can be powerful and elemental, adding a real sense of adventure to every visit. The cliff path above the beach offers some of the most spectacular elevated Cornwall coastal walks available, with panoramic views stretching far out across the Celtic Sea. There's a relaxed beach café here too — just the thing for a restorative hot drink after a blustery, soul-filling walk.

5. Harlyn Bay — A Sheltered Secret Near Padstow

Tucked into a sheltered curve near Padstow, Harlyn Bay is the kind of beach that locals guard closely and visitors return to again and again. The calm, crystal-clear waters are ideal for paddling dogs who prefer a gentler introduction to the sea. The headland walk from Harlyn to Mother Ivey's Bay is one of Cornwall's most rewarding coastal strolls, with sweeping views across Trevose Head Lighthouse and the surrounding Atlantic. At low tide, the exposed rocks become a labyrinth of rockpools just waiting to be explored — endlessly fascinating for curious canines.

Insider Tips for Dog-Friendly Beach Visits in Cornwall

  • Always check current seasonal dog restrictions before visiting — they vary by beach and change throughout the year
  • Early mornings and late evenings are golden: quieter, cooler, and often the most magical time to visit
  • Carry plenty of fresh water — sea salt and excitement can dehydrate dogs surprisingly quickly
  • A microfibre dog towel is worth its weight in gold at the end of a sandy adventure
  • Most Cornish beach car parks have dog waste disposal points — please always clean up after your companion

Make Chyvounder Your Cornwall Base

Exploring these incredible beaches is even sweeter when you're returning each evening to somewhere truly special. Chyvounder is ideally positioned to make all of these coastal escapes effortlessly accessible — a warm, beautifully appointed dog-friendly Cornwall retreat where your companion is as welcome as you are. Wake up to Cornish mornings, grab your lead and your walking boots, and let the coast unfold before you. This is the dog-friendly holiday in Cornwall you and your companion deserve.

Cornwall's beaches are among the most beautiful in the world. Come with your dog, breathe in that salt air, and let the coast do what it does best — sweep every last worry clean away.
